2023 BLACK MAMA'S BAIL OUT
by Philadelphia Community Bail Fund
This April and May, we are hoping to raise $150,000 to buy back the freedom of Black women and caregivers who are imprisoned in Philadelphia. Last year your generosity helped us reunite 42 Black women and caregivers with their families and communities.
In May 2017 a group of Philadelphia based organizers held the very first Black Mama's Bail Out. That year we raised $60,000 and bought back the freedom of 13 mothers in time for Mother's Day. Last year we were raised $317,000. This enabled us to free 42 Black women and caregivers and post $813,510 in bail.
This year our goal is to raise $150,000 to bail out Black women and caregivers. Like last year, we are expanding our Black Mama's Bail Out to include all Black women, gender-non-conforming people, and caregivers of all genders due the continued threat of COVID-19 in Philadelphia's jails. Every dollar you give now through May 14, 2022 will help us to #FreeBlackMamas. We provide mutual aid and support to everyone we bail out to help ensure that they are able to return to court and have good outcomes. We've helped with housing, transportation, drug and mental health treatment, education, counseling, and employment among other things. We also strive to build a community of support and care for those we free.
As of March 30, 2023, we've freed 854 people since May 2017 and posted over $6,900,000 in bail. Your support makes all of this possible!
